Rules of Oppositional Defiant Disorder: A New Therapeutic Concept

Objective: Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) commonly co-exists with ADHD and merits specific interventions. Our aim was to reframe ODD as a set of external rules that the child can reject. We surveyed parents for their views on ‘Rules ODD’ therapeutic concept. Method: Parents 85 children were invited rank 7 Rules in order relevance give additional comments. Results: Sixty-six (77%) considered concept useful; 24 (31%) made comments or suggestions. The highest ranked were: ‘Always argue disagree’ ‘Never admit being wrong’. No parent suggested harmful. Conclusions: useful by most parents. hope redefining series rules, stigma this diagnosis may be lessened, empowered make own more rational decisions.
